Vrănceni who take care of disabled people will be able to request and receive a 30-day leave. Thus, the list of types of medical leave to which employees are entitled will be expanded, according to a legislative project.

Employees who care for disabled people will benefit from paid sick leave. The measure is to be adopted, and the list of paid medical leaves will expand. The new type of medical leave is intended for those who take care of people who meet the criteria for inclusion in the degree of disability. It will be granted only to employees who are insured in the public health system for at least six months.

Any employee from Vrancea and beyond, will be able to request a leave and the related allowance if he is taking care of a person who meets the medico-psychosocial criteria for classification as disabled, found at the first request. The measure is similar to situations where employees take care of people with cancer or a sick child.

The duration of leave to care for a disabled person will be no more than 30 calendar days per year.

Such a leave is granted to the employee who takes care of a disabled person if he accompanies him, with his consent, to the specialized medical evaluations, investigations and psychological evaluation, which are necessary for the drawing up of the disability classification file. He will also have to be present at the assessment carried out by the Complex Assessment Service within the social assistance and child protection department.

This type of medical leave can be requested in the period between the date of issuance of the standard medical letter from the family doctor and the date of issuance of the disability certificate.

The allowance related to the leave for the care of a disabled person will be 85% of the calculation base. According to GEO 158/2005, it is determined, in principle, from the average gross monthly income of the last six months.

It should be noted that the new type of paid sick leave is similar to the one introduced two years ago, in April 2022, for employees who take care of cancer patients. They can request, annually, a paid leave of 45 days.

Also, through a law published in 2023, the rules by which leave is granted to care for sick children were changed. Employees can benefit from this type of leave to care for a sick child until the child reaches the age of 12, and not just seven years, as it was before.
