When Saylor Class, a three-year-old girl, started saying there were monsters in her bedroom, her parents initially thought it was just her imagination. However, the problem was much more serious, writes the BBC.

Saylor’s parents did not take her initial complaints seriously, believing them to be influenced by the movie “Monsters, Inc.” which they had just seen. Her mother, Ashley Massis Class, a home designer, even gave her a bottle of water she called “monster spray” to calm her down.

“I even gave her a bottle of water and told her it was monster spray so she could spray any monster at night,” the girl’s mother said.

But in the months that followed, Saylor insisted that something was in her closet. Eventually, the parents started noticing some bees around their 100-year-old house and realized the noise might be coming from her bedroom ceiling.

They turned to an extermination company who discovered that the winged insects were bees, a protected species in the US. She and her husband contacted a beekeeper who noticed the insects were making their way to the attic floor – right above his daughter’s bedroom.

The beekeeper brought a thermal camera to scan the walls of the three-year-old girl’s bedroom.

“It lit up like Christmas,” Massis Class said.

“At first, I thought it was a corpse. I was wondering, “What is this?”. And he said he thought it was a hive. He didn’t even have his bee gear yet, but he took a hammer and hit the wall. The bees came out in swarms like in a horror movie.”

Ashley continued: “There were swarms of bees and the wall he hit was full of honey. But it looked like blood, because it was very, very dark, running down my daughter’s pink walls. He looked very strange.”

The beekeeper said he had never seen a hive go so far down the wall.

He followed her to a coin-sized hole in the corner of an attic vent.

The beekeeper—whom Massis Class’ daughter began to call the monster hunter—opened the wall to reveal a huge honeycomb.

“They just came out like a horror movie,” the woman said.
