The head of diplomacy from Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, visiting Tunisia on Monday, did not shy away from criticizing the policy of Brussels and declared that the future Hungarian presidency of the EU will take place in a period full of dangers, and among them, the pressure of migration on the European continent is perhaps the most important, reports MTI, informs News.ro.

Hungary is preparing to take over the presidency of the EU Council starting July 1.

Instead of funding NGOs that transport migrants, Brussels should fund the development of coast guards in North Africa, Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó said after meeting Tunisian President Kais Said.

According to Szijjártó, the situation is aggravated by the fact that Brussels officials are currently pursuing a pro-migration policy, which is bad for both Europe and North Africa, as illegal immigration is a threat to both transit countries, as well as for the destination countries. “To be able to act effectively against migration, two changes would be necessary in Brussels. First of all, we must stop funding NGOs that cooperate with human traffickers and transport migrants”, said the Hungarian minister. “These NGOs transport migrants across the Mediterranean Sea, cooperate with human traffickers and bring illegal immigrants to Europe – for money”, accused the head of diplomacy from Budapest. “Instead of funding these NGOs that transport migrants, the coast guard of North African countries should be funded,” continued the Hungarian politician.

Africa’s population is booming

As the population of Africa will grow by 750 million people in the next 20 years, significant economic development programs are needed, Péter Szijjártó pointed out. In their absence, if Europe leaves Africa alone, in the coming years and decades to come Europe will face humanitarian and security challenges that will not be able to be managed, warned the Hungarian official, who left Tunis for Dushanbe, the capital Tajikistan.

Following up on the special reports of the European Court of Auditors will be an important task of the Hungarian EU presidency – in areas such as managing the root causes of migration, artificial intelligence, food labeling or the security of the Union’s gas supply, the Hungarian minister responsible for Union affairs announced on Monday European, János Bóka. The politician wrote on Facebook that he discussed with Tony Murphy, the president of the European Court of Auditors, about the priorities of the Hungarian presidency and about the related reports of the Court of Auditors.
