Botswana aims to donate no less than 20,000 elephants to Germany. The reason is the diplomatic fury triggered by the environmental policies of the German Greens.

Wanting to end trophy hunting and protect African wildlife, the German Greens have angered Botswana. While the party advocates a ban on trophy imports, Botswana is facing an “elephant plague” caused by overpopulation, according to Bild.

President Mokgweetsi Masisi sent a clear message: “We don’t take no for an answer.”

He believes it is time for Germany to share the burden of protecting the species with Botswana. 20,000 wild elephants for Germany. It’s not a jokeMasisi pointed out.

An essential condition

Botswana has also donated elephants to other African countries and hopes to do the same with Germany. However, there is one essential condition: “We want our elephants to roam free. German weather is bad enough for them”.

The president of Botswana does not shy away from criticizing the environmental policy of the German Greens, claiming that they have not fully understood the problems facing African countries. He thus invites Germany to take responsibility for the protection of wild species and to understand the efforts made by Botswana in this regard.

Masisi’s conclusion is clear: “If the Greens love animals so much, then they should accept this gift from us. They should live with the elephants as they are trying to tell us to do”.

Botswana currently faces significant challenges in managing its massive elephant population, estimated at around 130,000. Cohabitation is becoming more difficult and elephants are becoming more aggressive, attacking people, villages and cultures.
