On the DC Conducem show on DC News, defensive driving specialist Titi Aur explained the importance of passing a larger car on a multi-lane road near an intersection.
“When you’re going right or left at an intersection and you’re blocked by a big car, this is one of the lessons you need to know: Don’t pass when the big car stops. Maybe he stopped because he was hurt, but you better stop for nothing, because nothing happens if you stopped unnecessarily.
But if that person stopped and you didn’t, the risk of someone or something crossing – a pedestrian, a car, a dog, etc. – exists. If he stopped, there is certainly a 0.001% probability that he was hurt, and you can be a sucker for stopping unnecessarily, but that probability is very small. The biggest probability when a big car stops and the traffic light is green is that something is happening, that someone is coming or something is passing”, said Titi Aur.

The specialist’s comment on this subject was made after he saw, in the show, the images of a car driver who was hit in an intersection, although he passed the green light, after not taking into account that the bus next to him, which was also green, stopped, and which took away his visibility.
“The fault of the driver who was hit, he being legally innocent, is that he took the risk of passing when the bus was stopped. That’s a lesson everyone needs to learn. You don’t pass a big car at an intersection where you have priority, just to be a little ahead. It’s better to stop for nothing than not to stop when you have to,” said Titi Aur.
“Similarly, when you pass a bus stopped at the station, you have to reduce your speed as much as possible and try to get as far away from the bus as you can,” added the specialist in defensive driving.
