May cherries are being sold on OLX at a far too high price. How much did a kilogram of fruit end up costing – Budgetul.ro

The price of a kilogram of cherries has become a subject of heated debate in recent years, especially at the beginning of the season when the cost per kilogram seems unreal.

In May, however, prices returned to their normal range, but only at producers, not in the large markets in Romania. The first ads related to May cherries have already appeared on sales sites. The prices do not compare with those in the markets of Bucharest or big cities. The local producers pleasantly surprised the Romanians, after selling the cherries from their own orchards for only 15 lei per kilogram.

“I sell Romanian cherries from my own orchard, the Negre de Bistrița, Van and Stella varieties. The harvest begins on May 26. I can provide daily quantities of 200-400 kg freshly picked, until the end of June. The orchard is located in the town of Urechesti, Vrancea county. No treatments were applied in the last weeks before ripening. The price of 15 lei per kilogram is negotiable depending on the quantity,” reads one of the ads on OLX.

In April, the prices asked by sellers for the first cherries that appeared on the market was exorbitant. In Constanța, for example, a kilogram of cherries was sold for 250 lei.

Traders explain the exorbitant price by the distance the fruit travels to reach the market stalls. They were brought from Chile, and the 13,000 kilometers traveled cost a lot, which is why the sellers did not want to lower the price.

Price of 15 lei per kilogram with transport included

Another ad shows that the manufacturer still asks for 15 lei per kilogram, specifying that the price is negotiable and that it also offers transport within a limit of 100 km. According to him, the picking will start from May 10 and the amount available around 2 tons.

“I sell May cherries from my own orchard. Varieties:

– Queen

The harvest will start from May 10. Available quantity around 2 tons. Available for orders and collaboration. The price is 15 lei/kg, negotiable. Very tasty and sweet varieties of large and medium sizes. I ensure transport within the limit of 100 km”, the announcement states.
