Lamb meat is indispensable on the Easter tables of many Romanians, so the big retailers have decided to lower its price per kilogram.
Penny and Lidl have slashed prices just in time for Holy Week. The same decision was taken by Kaufland, which renewed its promotions, including lamb organs.
Lamb meat, cheaper a few days before Easter
Initially, the retailers set a price that most Romanians could not reach, so, seeing that it was not successful on the shelf, the lamb meat was put on sale at the promotion.
At Penny, the price of lamb reached 39.99 lei. Instead, at Lidl, 100 grams are sold at 4.99 lei, respectively 49.99 lei per kilogram.
Even Kaufland reduced the price from 60 lei to 50 lei, both for meat and lamb organs.
“At Kaufland, the price of lamb has dropped in the last three days from 60 lei/kg to 40 lei/kg! Those who will be patient will buy lamb for 20 lei/kg on Saturday! Come on, it can be done!
Don’t hurry, dear consumers”, the Association for Consumer Protection from Romania sent.
Meat for the Easter meal must be bought only from authorized places
On April 30, Sebastian Hotca, interim president of the ANPC, stated that the institution initiated procedures and controls at the national level for Easter products.
Consumers are advised to purchase lamb and other specific products only from authorized sources.
“We started some procedures and controls before this period, for fish at the national level, after that for Pascale products. Our conclusion and exhortation has always been for consumers to purchase these products only from authorized places.
It is extremely important, especially when it comes to lamb. It is important that it has the stamp of the sanitary-venetary control“, said Sebastian Hotca.

According to his statements, it is recommended to avoid purchasing meat from unauthorized persons, from the trunks of cars, as happened in previous years.
In addition, it is essential that before purchasing the products, buyers check the condition of the packaging, its integrity and tightness, as well as the validity period and the expiry date.
These aspects must be checked at the time of purchasing the products.
