A section of a highway collapsed early Wednesday in southern China, killing at least 19 people, local officials said, according to the Associated Press.

Dozens of people, taken to the hospital

Eighteen cars fell after a section of highway collapsed in the area of ​​Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. Everything would have happened following the heavy rains of the last few days that affected the area.

Medical crews intervened on the scene. Rescuers took 30 people to the hospital, state broadcaster CCTV reported.

Witnesses heard a loud noise

Witnesses told local media that they heard a loud noise. And they saw an open pit behind them after passing the stretch of road just before it collapsed.
