The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports issues passports to its bonafide citizens to facilitate their journey and provide them protection while traveling in foreign countries through the good offices of Pakistan Diplomatic Missions.

Accordingly, the holder of a valid Pakistan passport, when in a foreign country, is entitled to the protection of the diplomatic and consular representative of Pakistan in that country.

Pakistani nationals, who are acquiring the passport for the first time, are required to visit the relevant passport office or foreign mission to submit an application.

The department offers three categories for passport applications – Normal, Urgent and Fast Track. In this story, information about the urgent category has been included for Pakistan citizens.

The government has recently increased the fee for normal and urgent categories. As of May 2024, the new urgent fee for a standard 36-page passport for 5 years now stands at Rs7,500 from the previous Rs5,000.

For 10-year validity period, the urgent fee for 36-page passport has been increased to Rs11,200.

For 72-page passport for 5 years, the urgent fee stands at Rs 13,500. For 100-page passport valid for 10 years, the new urgent fee has been jacked up to Rs20,200.

Details available on the official website of the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports say the urgent fee passport will be issued in five working days.

However, the on ground situation is altogether changed as the notices pasted at the regional office say the issuances of urgent passports will take 15 days. The Applicants claim it took more than 21 days for the delivery of the urgent passport.
