A section of a highway collapsed in southern China on Wednesday morning, killing at least 19 people, local officials said, according to Hotnews.
Eighteen cars fell after a section of highway collapsed in the area of Meizhou city in Guangdong province following heavy rains in recent days. According to local authorities, at least 19 people died and rescuers took 30 people to hospitals, state broadcaster CCTV reported.
Witnesses told local media that they heard a loud noise and saw a sinkhole open behind them as they drove past the stretch of road just before it collapsed.
