Gymnast Daria Mihaiu, originally from Cugir, gold medal at the “Citadel Cup” organized in Deva

Days passed, in Deva was the “Cup of the Cetății”, which brought together over 200 athletes from 22 clubs from all over the country. The gold medal was obtained by Daria-Alexandru Mihaiu from Cugira, and she will also participate in the World Cup in Japan.

The 26th edition of the aerobic gymnastics competition “Cupa Cetății” was organized in Deva. Daria Mihaiu from CSM Constanţna managed to get the gold medal and is preparing to participate in the World Cup in Japan. The athlete coach at CSM Constanța is Maria Fumea.

The young gymnast was born on December 2, 2004 in Cugir, being the youngest of the Mihaiu family, with three older brothers, who are now 34, 35 and 36 years old. Since kindergarten, she did modern dances and in the primary classes, which she attended at School no. 4 from Cugir, was part of the juniors who danced under the title of Panterele Negre, a group coached by Mrs. Monica Câmpean.

In 2014, the Casa Campionilor Foundation, coordinated by Mariana Bitang and Octavian Bellu, started a unique project for the revival of Romanian gymnastics, supported by OMV Petrom. Following the selection of the candidates, 6 centers were established (Deva, Constanța, Timișoara, Onești, Steaua and Dinamo) with 200 girls.

Daria was then in the 3rd grade, she enthusiastically participated in the preselections at Deva, but did not enter gymnastics because she was already too old, but her talent was not overlooked and she was enrolled in aerobic gymnastics, at the Sports High School in Deva, where he was part of the club’s junior team, coached by Mădălina Susan, emeritus coach. The excellent results obtained at various domestic and international competitions determined the selection in the National Junior Team of Romania, in Constanța, under the guidance of coach Spânu Cristiana, then, in Bucharest, under the guidance of coach Marcela Fumea.

Daria’s talent and dedication did not go unrewarded: an avalanche of medals followed for the young woman from Cugire: at the International Aerobic Gymnastics Competition in Slovakia, the international champion title, at the European Aerobic Gymnastics Championship in Azerbaijan (Baku), the European vice-champion title on teams, at the Pharaon Cup in Egypt (Cairo), as a couple, and the title of international champion, 3 gold medals at the Bucharest Open Cup Championship, at the World Championship in Azerbaijan (Baku) – 1st place in the pair event, 2nd place in the event of Dance aerobics and 3rd place in group trials, medalist at the European Championships in Pesaro, Italy, world vice-champion in aerobic gymnastics with the team in Guimares-Portugal, world vice-champion in couple aerobic gymnastics in Birmingham (USA), national champion, with the team , at the first edition of the Romanian Artistic and Aerobic Gymnastics Cup organized in the “BT Arena” Multipurpose Hall in Cluj Napoca (in December 2022, the retirement ceremony of champion gymnast Marian Drăgulescu).

Daria is going to participate in one of the most important competitions in aerobic gymnastics, the World Cup in Japan. He will perform both in the individual test and in the couple test.
