A little girl and her grandmother, dead after eating mackerel

A 4-year-old girl and her grandmother, from a locality in Călărași county, died after allegedly eating frozen mackerel bought from the village store.

The tragedy happened on Monday morning, around 8:30. The family called 112 because the 4-year-old girl was unconscious. She was taken to the county hospital, was intubated, but eventually died.

Three hours later, the family called 112 again, because the grandparents were also hurt. The 55-year-old grandmother and the 66-year-old grandfather were taken to the hospital in Oltenita. Unfortunately, grandma also died. Relatives say their health deteriorated after eating frozen mackerel fish bought from the village shop.

DSP is now doing an epidemiological investigation to find out what happened. Another investigation was started by the Sanitary-Veterinary Directorate. Also, the Police have been notified in this case and the result of the necropsy of the little girl is awaited.

Sebastian Hotca, the head of ANPC, said that the institution he leads will also carry out checks: “We sent some warnings to consumers during the Floriilor period, when fish is consumed, regarding the quality of the products… In this case we will checks to establish whether the economic operator has carried out an authorized activity, whether it has conditions for storing and selling fish in accordance with the legal provisions”, according to digi24.ro
