The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine confirmed the information that the two Ukrainians killed in Germany were soldiers receiving treatment in Bavaria after being wounded at the front, according to Ukrainian media.

The crime was committed on April 27 in the town of Murnau-am-Staffelsee, where two Ukrainian men aged 37 and 23 were found stabbed to death at a local mall.

“Initial reports indicate that the deceased citizens were military personnel undergoing medical rehabilitation in Germany. The Ukrainian consuls specify the units where the victims served and get in touch with their families,” the Ukrainian MFA statement reads.

Diplomats also confirmed that the Russian suspected of committing the murders had been detained.

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine added that Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba ordered to pay special attention to the case and “remain in permanent contact with German law enforcement so that the criminal is punished.” He also expressed his gratitude to German law enforcement for the quick arrest of the suspect.

On Saturday, a phone call to the emergency service announced that two men were seriously injured in Murnau. By the time paramedics arrived, one man had died. The second man, who also had serious injuries, died in hospital shortly afterwards.

A 57-year-old Russian man suspected of murder was arrested in the German city of Murnau.
