Lamb, increasingly expensive a week before Easter 2024
A week before Easter, Romanians who want to put lamb on the festive table face higher prices compared to the previous year. The price varies significantly from one region to another of the country, but on average, a kilogram of lamb reaches 50 lei.
Significant price increases
This year, farmers have decided to raise lamb prices, citing rising production costs, including feed, utilities and transport.
Thus, the minimum price starts from 24 lei per kilogram of live lamb, at the farm. However, once it reaches the markets or supermarkets, the meat ends up costing significantly more. For example, in the markets of Argeș and Brașov, a kilogram of lamb is sold for 50-55 lei, while in Bucharest, the price can even reach 60 lei. However, there are also ways to get lamb at a lower price. Buying a whole lamb from the farm can be a more advantageous option, the price per kilogram can reach 45 lei.
Significant differences between regions
The final price of lamb is influenced by a number of factors, including the region of origin, breed of lamb, weight and way of sale (live, cut, pieced).
