Cluj Day | High prices in Cluj lead residents to look for certain services in neighboring counties

The high prices in Cluj for various types of services cause a large number of residents to look for alternatives in neighboring counties, such as Alba Iulia, Târgu Mureș and Zalău. People are willing to travel considerable distances for cheaper services.

Residents of Cluj choose to move to obtain more advantageous services, such as treatments at beauty salons, car repairs, tailoring and the purchase of custom-made furniture. In some cases, locals even visit relatives or friends in neighboring counties to take advantage of the lower prices.

One person shared his experience of going to a car mechanic in Dej, where repair costs, including the road, are lower than labor in Cluj-Napoca.

“I go to the mechanic in Dej. I pay less on the road, labor and parts than I would pay in Cluj just for labor,” a Cluj resident wrote on the Reddit platform.

Another case involves hiring a team of craftsmen from Zalău to renovate an apartment in Cluj, with significantly lower costs than those of local teams.

“A friend bought a two-room apartment from the developer, he practically didn’t even have sockets. He talked to a team of craftsmen about how much it would cost to fix it up, and there were some outlandish amounts. He contacted a team of craftsmen from Zalău . This is a rare case of such an investment to outsource the services, but it exists,” another person wrote.

Also, a woman who lives in Cluj-Napoca says that she prefers to benefit from certain services with decent prices when she goes to Târgu Mureș to visit her husband’s parents.

“I don’t know if it’s necessarily regular, but we do things in the past with certain things, but the luck is that the husband’s parents live somewhere further towards Tg Mureș, but it still takes about 1 hour and a half to get there, and yes, there we take things to the tailor, we go to vulcanization, we made furniture to order, we buy local products much cheaper than in Cluj, including from the confectionery. Anyway, I know people who still make such commissions when they go to their parents/relatives,” said the woman.

Another person says that many of his friends and relatives who live in Cluj prefer to benefit from certain services at decent prices from other counties.

“I recently discovered that several people in my life go to Alba Iulia to benefit from certain services at decent prices and to avoid some aberrations in Cluj (treatments at various salons, tailor, furniture, etc.)”.

This trend has caught the attention of many, especially those looking to avoid excessive spending and find more affordable solutions for their needs. However, it is essential to check the quality of services provided by providers in other counties, because a lower price does not guarantee a satisfactory result/product.
