Urgent recall for popular baby car seat over safety fears

Parents are being urged to urgently check their children’s car seats following a recall notice over safety fears.

The Solar Group’s 1 2 3 Isofix Car Seat has been identified as having a potential risk of injury. Models sold between February 1 and February 23, 2024, are affected by this notice.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards states: “Product: Solar Group 1 2 3 Isofix Car Seat. Hazard: There is a small internal component issue in certain batches of car seat, which may result in the harness not locking properly when pulled. Corrective action: Recall of the product from end users.”

The car seats are light grey, black and white with a harness and locking mechanism. The Mirror reports that the affected batch codes are: Nov-2020-6, Dec-2020-7, Jan-2021-1, Mar-2021-2, Apr-2021-3 and May-2021-4. Which? spokesperson said: “If you have the affected product, stop using it immediately and contact the retailer to arrange a refund or replacement.”

Going into more detail about the hazard, the Office for Product Safety and Standards states: “There is a small internal component issue in certain batches of car seat, which may result in the harness not locking properly when pulled. This could potentially compromise the safety of the child. The affected products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.”

Car seats are critical when it comes to caring for your children while driving and a car expert recently shared how cleaning them incorrectly can be potentially hazardous for your little ones. Tom Riley, CEO of Kids Car store has emphasized the importance of proper cleaning practices, which he says are crucial to maintaining the seat’s integrity and, more crucially, its safety.

Harsh, or inappropriate cleaning materials on car seats will not only compromise the hygiene of the car seat, he says, but can also lead to wear and tear that may cause the seat to malfunction in the event of a crash. He also says that understanding and implementing proper cleaning techniques is paramount for parents.

Mr Riley also insists on the importance of consulting the car seat’s manual before attempting to clean it, advising that the manuals are designed to provide specific instructions tailored to the safety and maintenance of the seat, including the recommended cleaning agents and methods. “Ignorance of these guidelines can inadvertently result in the degradation of key safety features of the car seat,” he said.
