“During the past year, the government of Nicu and Marcel adopted several emergency ordinances by which they beat themselves with their fists that they would reduce expenses. They promised to reduce the number of secretaries of state by 20%, that they would cap unnecessary expenses and that they would reduce the number of heads in the public administration. Also, the budget of these institutions had to decrease by 20% until the end of the year. In reality, the budget deficit rose to 28.99 billion lei after the first two months of this year, double that of last year. In the absence of solutions to support the Romanian economy, the PSD-PNL Government has found the solution to cover the budget hole but also to find the necessary funds for the expenses they have committed: government on debt”, states the deputy Adrian Axinia, the vice-president of AUR.

He recalls that the public debt increased, from August 2023 to January 2024, by approximately 100 billion lei and passed the psychological threshold of 50% of GDP.

“Just in January of this year, the Government led by Marcel Ciolacu added 18 billion lei to the government debt. It is unreal how the leaders of the Comasat Romanian Party choose to defy the Romanians and mock them, despite the laws they also give. I have not seen concrete investments for Romanians in the last year. We did not see new hospitals, nurseries or modernized schools. However, I heard big promises, election announcements that PNL and PSD have been making for 34 years. Furthermore, over 40% of Romanians do not have water and sewerage. In addition, thousands of schools have toilets in the yard, and students in dozens of villages are forced to walk kilometers on foot, on a road without a sidewalk, to get to school. People die in hospitals, and if they are lucky enough to live, they are discharged with more illnesses than when they were admitted. So where does the money go that we keep borrowing with huge interest from one month to the next? On the special pensions that Rareş Bogdan promised to eliminate in 30 days, but in reality the number of beneficiaries is increasing? On the salaries and bonuses of politically appointed heads of institutions? The Minister of Finance, Marcel Boloş, must urgently answer these questions”, adds Axinia.

He specifies that the AUR will request Boloş to appear urgently before the Parliament at Government Time.
