A handful of Saltzer Health facilities will survive the company’s closure thanks to a deal reached with Saint Alphonsus.

According to a release, two of Saltzer’s urgent care centers and its Ten Mile Ambulatory Surgery Center will remain open and managed by Saint Alphonsus. The deal has been months in the making.

All Saltzer facilities closed Friday.

“We are excited to collaborate with Saltzer Health to continue to provide vital services locally for the residents of our communities and proudly welcome these new providers and colleagues to the Saint Alphonsus family,” Odette Bolano, president and CEO of Trinity Health, West Region, said. “Working together with our colleagues and providers, patients will experience exceptional and accessible primary and specialty care close to home.”

Saint Alphonsus is part of the Trinity Health system.

What will remain open?

Saltzer shuttered the doors to all of its health clinics on March 29 after Intermountain Healthcare — which owned the Nampa-based healthcare company — announced in January that it would be closing its facilities if it did not find a buyer. Saltzer operated nearly a dozen family medicine, surgical, and urgent care locations across Ada and Canyon Counties.

With this new deal, the urgent care centers located in South Nampa at 215 E. Hawaii Avenue and in Meridian at 867 S. Vanguard Way will reopen in May after Saint Alphonsus installs its IT equipment and an Electronic Medical Record takes place. The Ambulatory Surgery Center will continue to operate uninterrupted under Saint Alphonsus ownership.

”Our goal during this challenging process was to ensure that as many medical services as possible continue to operate and serve the healthcare needs of the community,” Intermountain Medical Group Assistant Vice President Jana Huffman said. “We appreciate this collaboration with Saint Alphonsus so that residents in the Treasure Valley will continue to have access to convenient and affordable urgent care and surgery services.”

This is the latest development in a number of Saltzer announcements about how the company would move forward. Before the closure announcement in January, Intermountain Healthcare had changed strategies on how to manage Saltzer a number of times.

In February 2023, Intermountain announced it would rebrand Saltzer under Intermountain Health — but the rebranding never happened. Later, in the summer of 2023, the company announced it would shut down most of its urgent care clinics — except for a 24-hour clinic at I-84 and Ten Mile.

St. Luke’s previously tried to purchase the healthcare company in 2012, but the sale was blocked by an anti-trust lawsuit.

A representative from Saint Alphonsus would not disclose how much it purchased the facilities for.
