The recording of the discussion between the dispatchers at the moment when the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore collapsed was published in the American press.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed on Tuesday, March 26, after a vessel crashed violently into it. Six people are missing, and authorities say they are immigrant workers from Latin America.

In the recording, dispatchers can be heard discussing stopping traffic and alerting bridge workers when a call comes in reporting the bridge has collapsed.

Discussion between dispatchers:

“- I need one of you on the south side and one of you on the north side to stop all traffic on the bridge.

– A vessel is approaching that has just lost its direction.

– So, until they get this under control, we have to stop the traffic.

– I’m on my way to the south side. I’m stopping the traffic now.

– Is there a crew working on the bridge right now?

– Do you want me to stop the traffic on this side?

– Yes, if we can stop the traffic. Just make sure no one is on the bridge.

– I’m not sure if there’s a crew there.

– Dispatch C13, the entire bridge just collapsed.

– Do we know if the traffic was stopped?

– I can’t get to the other side. The bridge fell. We need to get someone on the other side to stop the traffic.”

According to the latest information, no divers have yet entered the water where the bridge collapsed due to the dangerous conditions, reports The Guardian.

“The debris field is quite large and I know that’s why they’re hesitant to send divers down because some of the debris is still moving. It’s dark,” the authorities explained. The six people missing as a result of the tragedy have not yet been found, and according to the latest data, they are immigrant workers from Latin America. The Mexican Embassy in Washington also confirmed that some of the six missing construction workers are Mexican.

“Six workers are reported missing, including Mexicans, Guatemalans and Salvadorans,” the Embassy said in a social media post.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, with a length of 2.57 km, collapsed on Tuesday after a cargo boat violently collided with it.

According to officials in the state of Maryland, the ship managed to send an SOS signal before the impact, and authorities were able to slow the flow of traffic, preventing more vehicles from falling into the water. Crews of workers were also on the bridge carrying out roadway repair work.
