Netflix has added Sonic Mania Plus to the list of games that subscribers can access for free on mobile devices without ads or additional in-app purchases.

The company originally announced that it would add this title to its catalog, along with Game Dev Tycoon, in December 2023. Sonic Mania Plus was developed especially for the 25th anniversary of the franchise, by fans known for their own creations of the type “fangame” and for their work in the ROM hacking community.

Ever since the original release in 2017, Sonic Mania is frequently recognized as one of the best Sonic games of all time. Sonic Mania Plus, released in 2018, also includes additional content. Netflix says the version from its library will include new levels and new “bosses”.

On May 14, Netflix will also add the anniversary edition of Braid to its lineup. Braid is a time-manipulating platformer where players control a character named Tim who must explore old memories from interconnected worlds to find and save a princess. The Anniversary Edition features improved audio, new animation sequences, completely redesigned graphics and more puzzles to solve, all bundled with 15 hours of audio commentary on the game’s development.

In addition to these two titles, Netflix’s game library will also receive a top-down puzzle adventure title, Paper Trail, on May 21st, and a Stories game based on the Virgin River series on May 29th. The 2019 platformer Katana Zero, which features an assassin in a dystopian setting as the main hero, will also make its way to Netflix’s gaming lineup, although the company doesn’t yet have an official release date.
