Do you create games, content, art? NVIDIA Studio has drivers and software tools for you; Here’s what it offers!

--

I like to think of myself as an artist, but more on the side of… words. As such I have always been jealous of those who make art by painting, drawing, even creating universes in video games. I have a friend like that, who creates video games, and I’ve had the opportunity to see him at work on games that I can’t tell you about, but I can tell you are the coolest Japanese horror titles. The AI helps him, but he is more based on Blender, Stable Diffusion, Unreal Engine 5. And for a while he also uses NVIDIA Studio. In what capacity you find out below.

Before I get into the details though, I’d like to mention that this app can be installed on any laptop with an NVIDIA RTX video card, even if it’s not NVIDIA Studio “certified”. Also, since we are talking about RTX laptops, they can also run games, so such a device is good for both play and work.

What is NVIDIA Studio?

NVIDIA Studio it was launched in 2019, but the platform has grown a lot since then. It was developed for creative professionals and combines some of the best NVIDIA hardware and software resources on laptops and desktops. They are ideal for those who want to engage in graphics-intensive tasks such as 4K video editing or 3D rendering.

NVIDIA has established requirements for devices NVIDIA Studio, which should ensure that every laptop and desktop listed that falls under the Studio rating is suitable for heavy work. You can see the requirements for an NVIDIA Studio device below:

  • GPU: GeForce RTX 3050, RTX A1000 or higher
  • CPU: Intel Core i5 (H Series) latest gen, AMD Ryzen R5 (H Series) latest gen or higher
  • RAM: 16GB or more
  • SSD: 512GB NVMe SSDs or higher
  • Display: factory-calibrated IPS screens with a wide range of colors (in 4K and 1440p)

This hardware enables desktops and laptops that are NVIDIA Studio certified to run intensive graphics processing techniques.

One of RTX’s most popular features is ray tracing, which allows photo-realistic images to be rendered with precise lighting and shadow effects. Users will also be able to interact with DLSS 3 as well as AI technology to make video and photo editing even faster.

What equipment did I test on?

All tested on a laptop Acer Nitro 17a solid device capable of running any modern game based on the latest NVIDIA technologies.

As specifications, we are talking about the following:

  • NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4060 laptop with 8 GB dedicated memory
  • ntel Core™ i7-13700H processor 14 cores 2.40 GHz
  • 43.9 cm (17.3″) QHD (2560 x 1440) 16:9 165 Hz
  • 16 GB, DDR5 SDRAM
  • 1 TB SSD

What is NVIDIA Studio Driver?

NVIDIA fans probably already know that the tech giant offers two versions of its graphics drivers for its GPU hardware – Game Ready and Studio drivers.

Game Ready drivers are more suitable for gamers as they are often optimized for specific games on release day and usually come with patches to improve performance.

Studio drivers, on the other hand, place more emphasis on the stability of creative software such as 3D creative suites and video post-processing. As with Game Ready drivers, Studio drivers are constantly updated to ensure creative software can run without errors or issues, with the company testing its own updates to ensure they won’t disrupt workflows.

The Studio driver is currently compatible with GeForce GTX 10 series and above, GeForce RTX series, TITAN V and RTX series, NVIDIA RTX series, and all Quadro products released since 2012.

With the NVIDIA Studio driver we have rendering times in Blender of a few seconds. This can be seen in the attached images.

What is NVIDIA Omniverse?

With Omniverse technology, NVIDIA provides businesses with physically accurate real-time simulations, virtual collaboration, and more. The Omniverse solution is about engineering, design and creation workflows as teams and users connect major assets, projects and design tools in a common space.

Omniverse features are adaptable to fit the needs of each business. However, NVIDIA has focused this innovative environment around a growing demand for creative collaboration – especially in the wake of the pandemic and the rise of hybrid work.

Omniverse benefits:

The NVIDIA Omniverse platform for creative collaboration will enable engineering, design and creative groups to work together through a series of shared tools. Just like we do at Mobilissimo with the Google Docs suite, with Dropbox, with Digi Storage, with Microsoft 365. With Omniverse, companies can create their own immersive VR experiences with live collaboration between some of the world’s most innovative 3D design tools.

The environment is scalable and intuitive.

What is NVIDIA Canvas?

Canvas is a revolutionary tool that uses artificial intelligence to transform simple pencil or brush sketches into realistic landscapes. This creative app combines artificial intelligence with the art of painting, turning a visual artist’s imagination into reality. NVIDIA Canvas lets you create images in real time, turning what you sketch into photorealistic art.

The AI analyzes the drawn lines and chosen materials, instantly transforming them into an eye-catching work of art. I noticed a huge palette of materials. From grass and rocks to clouds and sea, a wide range of materials can be selected, with unlimited creative opportunities.

NVIDIA Canvas enables seamless integration with Adobe Photoshop. Once you have created a landscape, portrait, project, you can directly export the .PSD file to Photoshop and continue working there.

You can separate artwork elements into different layers for granular control over every part of the image, allowing complex edits and changes at any stage of the creative process.

NVIDIA Broadcast

Broadcast is kind of for me. I also sometimes stream games and I need top video capture, top audio, top control panel.

NVIDIA Broadcast it has three main sections that cover a different part of the online streaming and creativity experience. The first deals with the microphone, the second with the sound and the third with the webcam. Each can be activated individually and used in conjunction with the other functions or alone. Using NVIDIA Broadcast in any application that involves a microphone or webcam is super simple: just select Broadcast as the hardware device instead of the microphone or webcam we have on hand.

AI background noise cancellation for microphones is important to me. Before it was RTX Voice, with its functions then they were combined with the others to create Broadcast. Now you just press a button and there is a slider to adjust how much cancellation effect you need.

In a really noisy room, with the air conditioning on, I increased the noise cancellation effect. It can have a greater overall effect on the quality of the microphone. So in a less noisy environment I recommend turning it down to preserve quality.

The webcam tools were also useful to me. The main functionality is to blur, remove or replace the background, and in each case it does very well. More than what the native software on PS5 offers for PS Eye for example.

If you’re a streamer, you might use NVIDIA Broadcast within OBS Studio, but you can also use OBS alone as a virtual camera with your other video apps. OBS is free, open-source, and extremely powerful, with a rich catalog of plugins and features you can use to make your webcam look better and your microphone sound clearer. I even used OBS when I did some live streams for Mobilissimo.ro launches.

Conclusion

Each of the above solutions caters to a creative: we have Studio drivers for game creators, Canvas for visual artists, and Broadcast for streamers and YouTubers like me. Let’s not forget RTX Remix, which I wrote about in the other NVIDIA material, the one with Ray Reconstruction.

Thanks to him we woke up with Half Life 2, NFS Underground 2 with a serious dose of ray tracing and up-to-date graphics. And it is part of the NVIDIA Studio suite. It’s practically a democratization of creativity, with the intuitive interface and putting your hardware and software resources to work.
