DJI has just introduced a new entry-level version to its ‘Mini’ drone offering. The Mini 4K thus replaces the DJI Mini SE in this range and appears to be very similar to the DJI Mini 2 from a few years ago in terms of design and capabilities. This drone looks to be a great model for those who want to get into the field and learn on a cheaper model before upgrading to the higher Pro models in the Mini range or the larger and more powerful drones in the Air or Mavic.

The DJI Mini 4K offers the same performance as the Mini 2 at a lower price

If you take a quick look at the DJI Mini 4K’s spec list, you’ll notice that it’s almost identical to the DJI Mini 2. We’ve got a 48-megapixel 1/2.3″ sensor that can shoot in 4K at 30 frames per second. second or 2.7K at 60 frames per second, or that can take photos at 12 megapixels. With a bitrate of 100 Mbps, the footage should offer high quality, comparable to what we get on dedicated cameras or video cameras.

Compared to the DJI Mini 2 SE, the model it replaces, the Mini 4K offers better resolution… and that’s about it. Otherwise, the drone looks largely the same, being equipped with the same 3-axis gimbal for the camera, runs on the same batteries, and comes bundled with the same remote controller that connects to the smartphone, the DJI RC-N1.

As a ‘Mini’ drone, the new DJI Mini 4K comes in at under 249 grams, which means it is subject to a less stringent flight regulation. In many regions, you do not need a license to fly such drones. The DJI Mini 4K has a level 5 wind resistance, meaning it can fly in winds of up to 38 km/h, and the range of the connection to the controller is 10 km, transmitting a Full HD feed. Of course, these statements are under ideal conditions. Most likely, the drone will behave the same as other drones in the Mini category in this regard.

The autonomy of a battery is 31 minutes, but still in ideal conditions. Probably, depending on wind, temperature and other variables, the average flight on a single charge is 20-25 minutes. What this drone doesn’t have is any sort of collision sensor. The only sensors it has are the ones on the bottom, used for takeoff and landing. For collisions with surrounding elements, you will have to be very careful when flying.

There is also a ‘Fly More’ package which includes a carry bag, replacement propellers, two extra batteries and a charger for three batteries, which was also available for the previous Mini 1, Mini 2 and Mini SE models. The price for the drone and controller is 299 euros, while the Fly More package reaches 439 euros. These prices are only 30 and 20 euros higher, respectively, than in the case of the Mini 2 SE, with filming at a maximum resolution of 2.7K.
