Ons Jabeur missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals of the 1000 points tournament in Madrid after an almost inexplicable failure at the quarter-final stage. The Tunisian seemed to have no problems in the confrontation with the American Madison Keys, who just a day ago had made another victim, eliminating the third favorite, the compatriot Coco Gauff, from the competition.

However, Keys seemed without many arguments in front of Jabeur, the eighth favorite of the tournament in the capital of Spain winning the first set without the right to appeal, 0, after 24 minutes of play.

The second leg started just as well for the Tunisian, who broke away to 2-0, but when she had only 4 games left to win before qualifying for the semi-final, everything fell apart.

Keys came back fabulously and managed to reinvent herself, turning the tide of the match and winning the second set 7-5 in overtime to level the score at sets after a very modest start.

Madison Keys is in the semi-finals in Madrid after a stunning comeback

After pulling off an all-important comeback from one round back in Coco Gauff when she was trailing 2-4 in the decider, Keys made a remarkable comeback against Ons Jabeur.

In high spirits after breaking even in sets, Keys continued to fly down the court and anesthetized Jabeur, who could no longer fight for the win. The American quickly took a 5-0 lead and eventually finished the game 6-1 to qualify for the semi-finals.

In the penultimate act of the competition in the Spanish capital, Keys, the 10th favorite of the tournament, will duel for a place in the final with the leader of the women’s hierarchy and the main favorite from Madrid, Iga Swiatek. For Keys, this will be her first semi-final since the US Open.

Following this result, Madison Keys is the third American player to reach the semifinals of both WTA 1000 clay-court events (Rome and Madrid), after the Williams sisters.
