Simona Halep’s return to the court after lifting her doping suspension is slowly turning into a fiasco.

Simona Halep managed to play only one match, the one in Miami with Paula Badosa. Then, she declined participation in the Billie Jean King Cup, but also in the Oeiras and Madrid tournaments, to which she had received invitations.

The next big tournament before Roland Garros is the one in Rome (May 7-16). However, the organizers announced that all invitations have been given.

“The policy of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation is to grant mainly wildcards for Italian players. Also for athletes who do not have a ranking to enter the main draw by right. All the invitations for the tournament in Rome were granted”, Federica Paoletti, the press officer of the Italian Tennis Federation, told IAmSport.

A first reaction from Simona’s entourage came through the voice of Stere Halep, the athlete’s father.

“Simona is very well, God help! We hope to see her at Roland Garros, if she gets a wild card”, commented Stere Halep in a conversation with journalists.
