Djokovic and Ivanisevic, “satisfied” with each other. Pilic’s verdict: “He needs a coach to respect”

The famous coach Nikola Pilic, one of the first technicians in Nole’s career, said during the promotion of the documentary film “Nikola Pilic – Legend” that the Serbian and Goran Ivanisevic were probably tired of the collaboration they had and that’s why they decided to put end of cooperation.

“They worked for a few years and won 9 majors. Novak had his best year in 2023. He won the Australian Open, Roland Garros, he played in the Wimbledon final, he won the US Open. People are getting tired, I think it’s a lot of pressure every week. Novak has to prepare for the matches, he and the coach don’t always have the same opinion. I guess there was fatigue between Novak and Goran, they were tired of each other. I haven’t talked to either of them about the real reason”transmitted Nikola Pilic.

The former Croatian tennis player, now 84 years old, said that he does not know who could be the new coach of the Serbian tennis player, but that it is absolutely necessary for Nole to find someone he respects: “Two people make better decisions than one. Novak needs someone to respect him, even though he is the best tennis player in the world. I don’t know who the new coach could be. I don’t have that information. This is normally in sports, almost nobody stays somewhere as a coach for 10 years”Pilic declared.

He added that when Djokovic arrived at the Academy in Munich, he did not know that the Serb would become the best tennis player of all time: “At the time he came, I really didn’t know if he would be the best tennis player of all time, but the fact that I accepted him in my Academy in Munich… I accepted him as if he were our son.

It is certain that my wife and I received Novak as a really special person, knowing what is happening here in Serbia. I’m sorry for the emotion I’m showing. Novak as a person and as a player is a special person and his personality and charisma are special. I was convinced he would be a big player, but I didn’t know he would be number one. His quality as a person and as a player is extremely high”emphasized Pilic.

The expert added that he is proud that as a coach he had the opportunity to get a diamond that he could polish in the person of Djokovic: “I came to Belgrade with Novak 20 years ago, now he’s 37. I had the opportunity to coach the best of all time, and Novak only got a third of the media exposure of what he’s achieved. To be voted the best athlete in the world five times is incredible”concluded Pilic.
