Five dead and 20 wounded in attacks carried out by Russians in eastern and northeastern Ukraine

Five people were killed, including a man and his daughter, and 20 others were injured in several attacks carried out by Russians in eastern and northeastern Ukraine, according to regional authorities, reports France-Presse, taken over by news.ro.

Two civilians who were in a car were killed by a guided aerial bomb launched by Russian forces in the Kharkiv region, in northeastern Ukraine, Governor Oleh Sinehubov announced on Wednesday. It is about a 38-year-old woman and her father, stated the Ukrainian General Prosecutor’s Office.

“The Russians attacked (Wednesday), at 10.00 (local) time (and Romanian time) a car and a house in Zolociv”, a village located approximately 50 kilometers from the border with the Russians, with “guided aerial bombs”, accused Oleg Sinegubov.

Another 13 people were injured, including an 11-year-old child, he announced on Telegram.

Another woman, aged 67, died of her injuries later in a shelling of the village of Leliukivka in the same region, the governor announced.

The Kharkiv region, located on the border with Russia, is almost constantly targeted by Russian bombing.

Russia has used new and powerful aerial guided bombs in recent months, with devastating consequences, notes France-Presse.

Another attack carried out by the Russians resulted in two deaths and six injuries in Guirnîk, a small town located approximately 15 kilometers from the front line in the Donetsk region (east), governor Vadim Filaşkin announced on Telegram.

Artillery fire and a Russian drone attack wounded four people in Nikopol, in the central-eastern part of Ukraine, regional governor Serghii Lîsak announced.

He stated that Russian troops attacked the city with Uragan rocket launchers and posted images of a house on fire.

Russia may not start an all-out war with NATO, but it already has plans to destroy the Alliance from within

The era of relative peace and prosperity that the West has enjoyed since the end of World War II may be rapidly coming to an end, writes journalist Tom Porter in an analysis for Business Insider (BI).

In March, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Europe was in a “pre-war” era and that Russia must not defeat Ukraine for the continent’s security.

It is one of a series of increasingly stark warnings that the war in Ukraine could be the prelude to a much larger conflict.

Some countries have supplied weapons to Ukraine without setting restrictions on their use

Some of Ukraine’s allies sent weapons to Kyiv without restrictions on strikes inside Russia, Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze said in an interview with European Pravda, The Kyiv Independent reports.

Ukraine continues to press its Western allies for longer-range weapons, but the partners have been reluctant to deliver weapons that could be used to strike inside Russian territory.

President Zelensky said that Kiev will not use weapons provided by foreign partners to strike targets outside the country’s borders. Such restrictions do not apply to domestically produced weapons, some of which are reportedly capable of striking deep inside Russia.

Braze said Ukraine needs the capabilities to carry out “precision strikes in depth,” including against targets on Russian soil.

“Ukraine’s use (of Western weapons) is permitted by international law. If there are facilities from where Russia carries out attacks on Ukraine, you have the right to respond,” the Latvian minister said.

Asked if the approach to the ban on striking with foreign-made weapons on Russian territory could be changed, Braze replied that “there are countries that have already supplied weapons to Ukraine without such restrictions.”

“Not everything is announced publicly, and it’s even better not to say it out loud until a certain point. The main thing is the impact on the battlefield. Because there is a choice here – either speak loudly about something or just do what is necessary,” the minister said.
