Ukraine is preparing security cooperation agreements with seven other countries, including the United States, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in his address to the nation on Wednesday evening.

“We are preparing seven new security documents for our country – bilateral security agreements – in particular, the security agreement with the United States of America, armament, finance, political cooperation – today I worked with the team on the specific details of these documents, and for some among them we already have a preliminary text of the agreements”, President Zelenski announced.

Some of Ukraine’s allies sent weapons to Kyiv without restrictions on strikes inside Russia, Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze said in an interview with European Pravda, The Kyiv Independent reports.

Ukraine continues to press its Western allies for longer-range weapons, but the partners have been reluctant to deliver weapons that could be used to strike inside Russian territory.

President Zelensky said that Kiev will not use weapons provided by foreign partners to strike targets outside the country’s borders. Such restrictions do not apply to domestically produced weapons, some of which are reportedly capable of striking deep inside Russia.

Braze said Ukraine needs the capabilities to carry out “precision strikes in depth,” including against targets on Russian soil.

“Ukraine’s use (of Western weapons) is permitted by international law. If there are facilities from where Russia carries out attacks on Ukraine, you have the right to respond,” the Latvian minister said.

Asked if the approach to the ban on striking with foreign-made weapons on Russian territory could be changed, Braze replied that “there are countries that have already supplied weapons to Ukraine without such restrictions.”
