A Russian missile attack injured more than 13 people in Odesa, a Ukrainian port city already targeted earlier this week by deadly attacks, local authorities said overnight Wednesday into Thursday.
“A new Russian attack with ballistic missiles” hit Odesa, reported the mayor of this city in southwestern Ukraine, Gennady Trukhanov, on the Telegram social network.
“Civil infrastructures were destroyed” and “13 people were injured” in the attack, he said, adding that the firefighters were fighting “a large fire”, without giving any other details.
For his part, the governor of the Odesa region, Oleg Kiper, stated that a “Russian missile attack on the city of Odesa” injured 14 people. “Civil infrastructures were destroyed, including postal warehouses,” he added.
A vital Black Sea port for Ukrainian exports, the city of Odessa is regularly targeted by deadly missile and drone attacks.
On Wednesday morning, the local authorities announced the death of at least three people, victims of a Russian missile attack on the city. And on Monday, a similar attack led by Moscow killed five people there, according to local officials.
Russia has been pounding Ukrainian cities relentlessly for months and advanced on Ukraine’s eastern front ahead of the arrival of US weapons crucial to Kiev.
