Cristi Balaj (52 years old) decided to resign from CFR Clujwhere he held the position of president.
The former great referee announced that he needs a break and considers it a matter of “honor” to leave together with coach Adrian Mutu, who he resigned Wednesday morning, a few hours after 0-4 at Corvinul Hunedoara.
Cristi Balaj is also leaving CFR Cluj
“The elimination from the Romanian Cup was a disappointment that left traces on me. As of last night I announced that I felt physically ill and faced a difficult condition to manage. It was a feeling I didn’t come across very often.
I feel the need for a break. Time with the family. My girls need a healthy father. Consequently, I have decided to tender my resignation. I hope that Mr. Varga will understand me and accept this decision.
In other words, it is not normal that only the coach is to blame, it is a matter of honor. I also hope that the team overcomes this difficult period and comes back stronger. Romanian football needs clubs that get points in European cups, as CFR Cluj has done in recent years“, Cristi Balaj announced on Facebook.
CFR Cluj: “Ithe rest on the bench of our team will be ensured by the technical staff of the club”
CFR Cluj announced, shortly after the formalization of the separation from Adrian Mutu, that the team will be led by the “technical staff from within the club”, without, however, presenting the names of the coaches.
“Tense moments show us, every time, that we are strong and that we have the ability to rise. We succeeded in the past, we will succeed in carrying on the white cherry spirit!
An unfortunate episode is not a completely lost battle! We will work, we will recover and we will continue the fight that this play-off requires!
Therefore, in the next period, the interim on the bench of our team will be provided by the technical staff of the club“, announced the CFR Cluj club.
