A man with dual Moldovan and Romanian citizenship was arrested in Suceava for human trafficking and exploitation of begging. Together with the DIICOT prosecutors – Suceava Territorial Service, the policemen of the Organized Crime Brigade documented his criminal activity. The man allegedly exploited a person with a physical disability, forcing her to beg in various localities in Suceava county and neighboring areas in order to obtain large incomes. The sum obtained from the begging would have been fully appropriated by the man under investigation.
The investigations showed that starting in December 2023, the man would have exploited the victim in various localities in Suceava County and Botoșani in order to obtain income from begging.
In addition, it was found that the same person would have been exploited in the same way in the Republic of Moldova in the period 2004-2019.
On April 18, 2024, an agreement was concluded to set up a joint investigation team between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, and on April 23, 2024, house searches were carried out both in Suceava county and in Nisiporeni district of the Republic of Moldova. The investigated man was detained on April 23, 2024, and the next day his preventive arrest was ordered for 30 days by the rights and freedoms judge of the Suceava Court. The judicial activities were carried out with the support of Eurojust and SELEC, and the specialized support was provided by the Special Operations Directorate within the IGPR.
