More than 70,000 Romanian and foreign tourists were in the hotels and holiday apartments on the Romanian coast, between April 25 and May 6, 2024, in the first official opening period of the 2024 seaside season, according to the representatives of the Federation of Employers in the Hospitality Industry of Romania .
The weather was unfavorable in the first interval, which included the traditional period April 30 – May 2, but most of the young people and those who already had tickets and plans to the SUNWAVES Electronic Music Festival, to the parties in the Night Clubs of Mamaia or to the Gastronomic Festival “Festival du Bonheur” – they came to the sea, regardless of the weather.
Mamaia, Mamaia Nord, Vama Veche and Costinești are the destinations with which, once again, the summer season opened.
Vama Veche had the highest degree of occupancy from the total number of accommodation places, over 90%, and Mamaia attracted the largest number of tourists, that every year, due to the largest capacity of accommodation places, from the total number of resorts .
SUNWAVES, the electronic music festival that opens the summer season, reached 90% foreign tourists, out of the total number of participants, which proves that a solidly organized and promoted international event attracts the attention of Western Europeans much more than hotels could, the restaurants, the destination itself and is a real catalyst of attention and attractiveness for an important segment of tourists and fans of this kind of music.
FESTIVAL DU BONHEUR ended the first event of the season with a growing balance sheet, according to the organizers, even if not a very large one.
The concerts organized in Mamaia and Constanța, the opening of the program at the Mamaia Gondola and other events in restaurants and hotels also attracted the image of a destination that was preparing for its first official tourists.
The beautiful weather recorded in the second interval, the one oriented around the Orthodox Easter holiday, attracted even more tourists to the sea than were recorded at Easter in any other year, and during this interval the number of family tourists or families with children increased, who chosen to take the light from the seashore.
An encouragingly high number of foreign tourists, especially Americans, who came independently to Constanța, although staying in Bucharest, and who requested sea cruises, Constanța city tour and guided visits to Dobrogea were recorded.
