Cluj patient with stroke transferred by helicopter to Suceava after being refused by 5 radiology centers

--

A stroke patient was transferred from Cluj Napoca to the Suceava County Emergency Clinical Hospital, being the first request of this kind from a university center.

According to the spokesman of SCJU Suceava, Dr. Dan Teodorovici, quoted by newsbucovina.ro, a 47-year-old patient with a vascular accident was transferred to SCJU Suceava on Saturday afternoon by the SMURD helicopter from the Emergency County Hospital in Cluj acute ischemic brain.

The quoted source shows that the patient’s symptoms started at 11:30.

“Thrombolysis was performed (administration of drugs that dissolve the blood clot) at 2 p.m. at the hospital in Cluj. Because there was no significant improvement in the symptoms, it was decided to transfer the patient to the Suceava County Clinical Hospital for the extraction of the blood clot from the level of the affected cerebral vessel by the team from Interventional Radiology”, stated Dr. Dan Teodorovici.

He said that this is the first request of this kind received by SCJU Suceava from a university center and that it was honored, noting that there have been other requests from university centers, but this is the first patient who was scheduled in time for the thrombectomy.

The procedure was successfully performed with the clot being extracted, and the patient was doing well at press time.

It should be mentioned that the team that contributed to this success was made up of doctors from UPU, neurologist Dr. Ana Burca, anesthesiologist Dr. Tiron Crina, interventional radiologists Dr. Cătălin Lulciuc and Dr. Mircea Gabriel, assistants Serediuc and Lucanu.

“It is important to state that the patient was previously refused by 5 other interventional radiology centers either because of the lack of kits for performing the intervention, or because of the lack of staff”, emphasized Dr. Dan Teodorovici.
