The magistrates of the Alba Iulia Court of Appeal gave a final sentence in the case of two thieves who stole from the Roman Catholic Cathedral. It’s about two men who broke into the cathedral to steal from the mercy box.

On April 30, 2024, the two thieves learned their final punishment. More precisely, they appealed the decision of the trial court, Alba Iulia Court.

In addition to the Catholic cathedral, they also stole from two carts near the Coronation Cathedral in Alba Iulia.

The acts were done by them two days apart, more precisely on the nights of January 20 and 21, 2022.

At the carts in front of the Cathedral, the theft was relatively simple. Only one of the two participated. He forced the doors of the two shops and stole the sum of 1400 lei and products worth 100 lei.

With the lever, they forced one of the mercy boxes and stole the sum of 50 lei.

Law enforcement quickly identified the two because they are repeat offenders. At the time of the conviction, the two were already in custody at the Aiud penitentiary for other crimes.

What punishments did they receive?

The first of the two was sentenced to a resulting sentence of 4 years and 3 months in prison, as he also had other convictions.

The second man received a total sentence of 2 years, 10 months and 20 days in prison.

At the Alba Iulia Court of Appeal, on April 30, the magistrates rejected the appeal of the two. As a result, the judgment of the trial court became final.
