Cluj Day | Work begins on another section of the Cluj – Oradea – Episcopia Bihor railway

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI) has issued the construction permit for the electrification and rehabilitation project of the Alesd – Hungary border lot within the Cluj Napoca – Oradea – Episcopia Bihor railway line.

The location of the railway works that are subject to authorisation, with a total length of 46.74 km, is in Bihor county, within the radius of the UATs: Oradea Municipality and the communes of Asțileu, Șețchea, Tileagd, Săcădat, Oșorhei and Borș.

The value of the authorized works is 1.96 billion lei, without VAT, according to the document published last week on the MTI website and quoted by economica.net.

CFR SA signed in December 2022 the contract for the electrification and modernization of lot 4 ALEȘD – FRONTIERĂ (46.74 km) of the Cluj Napoca – Oradea – Episcopia Bihor railway line (166.2 km). The winner of the contract is the association led by Italians from WeBuild.

Contract value (design and execution) – 2.41 BILLION lei
Funding: PNRR non-reimbursable funds
Duration of contract implementation: 42 months (6 months design and 36 months execution)

OBJECTIVES (design and execution of works):
– the electrification and modernization of the railway infrastructure and superstructure for the maximum speed of 160 km/h on the ALEȘD – FRONTIERĂ section, in a length of 46.74 km
– 18 km double line
– 4 modernized stations – Tileagd, Oradea Est, Oradea, Episcopia Bihor – and the Oșorhei transit stop
– 4 modernized stopping points – Șețchea, Telechiu, Săbolciu and Săcădat
– 9 bridges and 17 modernized footbridges
– 6 underpasses rehabilitated
– 2 new underpasses – at Tileagd and Oradea
– 17 railway level crossings equipped with automatic signaling systems
– ERTMS system (ETCS level 2 and GSM-R) on the entire route

PUBLIC AND RAILWAY UTILITY OBJECTIVES:
– 7 pedestrian crossings in the CF Tileagd, Episcopia Bihor, Hm Oșorhei stations and in the Țețchea, Telechiu, Săbolciu and Săcădat stops
– new passenger building in Oradea Est station;
– rehabilitation of the underground pedestrian passage from the Oradea station;
– sound-absorbing panels on a total length of 20.515 km;
– new maintenance building in Oradea station;
– electrification center in Oradea station;
– loading-unloading ramps in the Tileagd, Episcopia Bihor and Hm Oșorhei stations;
– new traction substation in the Oradea station area.
