The rights of mothers in maternity, explained at leisure – News from Mures, News Targu Mures

Because many mothers-to-be do not know their rights in maternity, I considered it appropriate to write an article to discuss this topic, which is why I contacted the president of the Association of Independent Midwives in Romania, Melania Tudose, the most skilled person who can explain these legalities at leisure . Of course, a first right of women, of patients in general, is easy access to safe medical services in hospital facilities. “What I can tell you now is that all women have the right to go through the stages of pregnancy, birth and labor safely and in a natural way, because these stages are natural, life events, only in a few cases can they deviate from normality . And then, yes, certain interventions are necessary. Women have the right to respect for their dignity and their personal and cultural values ​​and – very importantly – they have the right to have access to midwifery services. Women in most European countries have access to midwifery services, and this is evident in the reports of maternal-child indices, in scientific studies and it is also known from the experiences related by them”, Melania Tudose stated for the daily Zi de zi.

Regarding the actual period of hospitalization in maternity, according to Melania Tudose’s explanations, the expectant mother has the following rights, stipulated in Law no. 46/2003 on the patient’s rights: the right to medical information, the patient’s consent regarding medical intervention, the right to confidentiality of information and the patient’s private life, the patient’s rights in the field of reproduction, which include the fact that the patient can benefit from the support of family, friends, support spiritual, material and advice throughout the medical care and that, at the request of the patient, as far as possible, the care and treatment environment will be created as close as possible to the family one.
