Father Paisie Olaru from Sihăstria is one of those people of the church who changed the destiny of many people. Those who have followed the path of the Hermitage have always found a kind word and soul comfort from Father Paisie.
The news about his miracles spread throughout the country, so that the Hermitage became a place of pilgrimage. Father Paisie is one of the priests proposed for canonization next year, when the Patriarchate of the Romanian Orthodox Church turns 100 years old, writes Antena3.

Father Paisie Olaru was born in Lunca commune, Botoșani county, being the youngest of the family’s five children. In a few years, he would become one of the most famous clergymen of Moldova.
He obeyed at several monasteries, but the most dear to his soul remained the Sihla hermitage and the Sihăstria monastery.
“He was the greatest monk of our church, so say those who have justly appreciated the history of the last two centuries. It is said about Paisie Olaru that he was the greatest monk since Saint Calinicus.

From the middle of the 19th century until now”, says PS. Timotei Prahoveanul, Bishop-Vicar of the Archdiocese of Bucharest.
“He went up to Father Cleopas, he came back… all day he read a Psalter, all the psalms. There was a person who took care of the church and said to him: come father and eat something and they brought him food.
He went to the cell to eat and when he went and came back from the cell…he still had some prayers to read”, declares Hierodeacon Teodosie, Sihăstria Monastery.
Father of thousands of believers
Paisie the Priest knew how to make everyone find peace of mind. Besides, the most frequent canon that the father gave was: “don’t do it again!”.
“They instilled in us spirituality, they made us seek eternity and so we gave up the things of this world, I felt the call through the power of their prayer and the spiritual words I listened to.

That’s how many of the young people of this monastery came to follow their monastic life”, says Hierodeacon Sofian, Sihăstria Monastery.
