The plant is considered the largest industrial objective in Romania, considering the investment estimated at 1.4 billion euros, which would be completed by 2026.

″The new plant will produce electricity in more environmentally friendly conditions, thanks to very low emissions of PM 10 and PM 2.5 dust, with minimal impact on the environment. What’s more, the sulfur oxides that were in the past among the plant’s emissions no longer exist in the new project, according to the documents that formed the basis of the agreement. According to the colleagues from APM Hunedoara, who managed all this approach from the point of view of environmental protection, the first turbine will arrive at the plant by the end of May”, announced the president of the National Agency for Environmental Protection (ANPM), Laurentiu Alexandru Paștinaru.

″Hopefully it will do the area a lot of good, primarily because the fuel is changing. It will no longer burn coal, but methane gas, and the impact on climate change will also exist in this case, because methane gas is all carbon, but the other pollutants that caused problems will be eliminated: dust and sulfur oxides. From the point of view of the authorization work, in addition to the application of the legislation on the assessment of the impact on the environment, on biodiversity or the health of the population, we also had to consult with Hungary and Serbia, both of which expressed their support for the project″, said the executive director of APM Hunedoara, Georgeta Barabaș.

The contract for engineering, construction and commissioning of the new plant was concluded about a year ago by the developer Mass Global Energy Rom with one of the largest and oldest construction conglomerates in Greece, Avax Group. The agreement provides for a total budget of 673.5 million euros.
