The suspicion was confirmed last week, ordering the slaughter of more than 11,000 pigs.

The Olt Local Disease Control Center (CLCB) approved the “Measure plan regarding the fight against African swine fever in the commercial pig farm in Negreni, Scornicești city, Olt county”, deciding the measure to eliminate all pigs, respectively a herd of 11,425 pig heads.

“The carcasses of the dead or killed pigs and all the materials in the premises of the holding will be destroyed under official supervision, in accordance with the legal provisions”, the DSVSA Olt representatives sent.

Following the confirmation of the PPA outbreak, several localities, as well as several hunting funds, were included in the protection zone (delimited within a radius of 3 km around the outbreak): Scornicești-Negreni, Chițesca, Piscani, Mărgineni-Slobozia, FV 11 Potcoava, FB 8 Scornicesti.

Even more localities are in the surveillance area (within a radius of 10 km): Scornicești-Suica, Mogoșești, Rusciori, Constantinești, Teiuș, Bircii, Bălțăti, Jitaru, Mărgineni-Slobozia, Mihăilești Popești, Potcoava-Fălcoeni, Trufinești, Optași – Magura, Sîrbii Magura – Vitănești, Colonești-Guesti, Mărunței, Bătăreni, Năvîrgeni Tătulesti, FV 10 Optași, FV 7 Priseaca, FV 12 Bălteni and FV 9 Tătulesti.

The surveillance area also includes two commercial pig holdings from Constantinesti.

“It is prohibited to trade, alienate or move in any form live pigs, meat and pork products from the restricted areas”, specified the DSVSA representatives.

All suspect animals must be euthanized and neutered

“To prevent the spread of the disease, all suspect animals must be slaughtered and neutered, and the owners will be compensated by the state, under the conditions provided by the legislation.

We make it clear that African swine fever does not affect humans, there is not even the slightest risk of illness for humans, this virus, however, has an impact at the social level from an economic point of view”, DSVSA also transmitted.
