Almost a thousand tourists enjoyed this weekend the first edition of the Steppe Peony Festival, in the Calendar Castle courtyard. Tourists enjoyed the famous traditional dishes and enjoyed the workshops of artisans or guided tours of the castle. And in the evening people visited the peony reserveunique in Europe, where they took pictures with the beautiful flowers.

This year the organizers aimed to highlight both the beauty of the steppe peony and the fascinating story of the Calendar Castle.

Florin Moldovan, organizer: The festival brings a synergy of the two objectives to which we added other elements of identity consisting of gastronomy, producers, folk craftsmen and artisans

Craftsman: All our paintings are painted on eggshells, including this one that represents part of the beauty of the field of peonies.

And in addition to the workshops, the tourists also enjoyed the famous traditional dishes specific to the area.

Child: Here we have toast bread with beef lard that is sprinkled with salt, paprika and onion.

Woman: Something delicious, I used to eat bread with lard and onions as a child.

The tourists who came to the festival also visited the famous Ugron Castle. The castle in Zau de Câmpie was built according to the principles of a calendar. It has 365 windows, the number of days in a year, 4 towers, the same as the number of seasons, 52 rooms, the number of weeks, 7 terraces, the number of days in a week, and 12 halls, the number of months.

Man: Everything is wonderful, I really liked it, it looks very good, but unfortunately it is abandoned and looks pitiful.

And in the evening, the participants had the opportunity to take photos with the famous steppe peonies, which bloomed faster this year. The botanical reserve at Zau de Câmpie is unique in Europe and is located on the highest place in the world to which this plant has adapted, i.e. at over 450 meters.
