The summer of 2024 does not bring big changes to the list of destinations that can be reached by direct flight from the newly modernized international airport. In total, there are still five destinations, as last year, the only difference being that instead of the island of Skiathos, landing can be done on the island of Rhodes.

Whether you prefer sunny beaches or historic cities, there are still options for all tastes and budgets.

Antalya (Turkey), Hurghada (Egypt), Crete Heraklion (Greece), Monastir (Tunisia) and Skiathos (Greece) were the summer destinations “connected” to Sibiu by charter flights last year. This year, the only change announced by the airport representatives is the destination of Rhodes, the fourth largest island in Greece, which replaces the destination of Skiathos.

Antalya, Turkey

Days of operation: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday
Period: May – September 2024

Antalya remains a popular choice for sun and sea lovers. Flights operated from May to September, five times a week, provide easy access to this pearl of the Mediterranean. A seven-night stay in a three-star hotel for two people, all inclusive, can start from around 650 euros and can exceed 900 euros depending on the hotel’s distance from the airport – whether it’s in Alanya, Kemer or Side And so on Some packages also include transport from the airport to the accommodation unit.

Crete Heraklion, Greece

Operating days: Wednesday, Friday
Period: June – September

Heraklion is the capital of Crete, it is the fifth largest city of Greece and the economic and administrative center of the island. It is also home to the island’s most popular tourist attractions, such as the Archaeological Museum, the Palace of Knossos, the CretAquarium and the tomb of Nikos Kazantzakis.

Here, prices approach 1,000 euros for two adults for a seven-day stay and easily exceed this threshold, depending on the offers of travel agencies.

Hurghada, Egypt

Days of operation: Thursday
Period: March – October

For those who dream of the mysteries of Egypt, Hurghada is accessible by weekly flights every Thursday from March to October. One-week stays at 4- or 5-star resorts start from 650 euros for the option with breakfast or 860 for all-inclusive and can exceed 2,000 euros, depending on the services and facilities included.

Monastir, Tunisia

Days of operation: Tuesday
Period: June – September

Flights to Monastir are scheduled every Tuesday from June to September. This destination offers a combination of magnificent beaches and historical sites, with holiday packages that can vary in price depending on the standard of accommodation and the period chosen.

Tunisia is part of the African and Arab world, but also one of the most modern Islamic nations and a bridge to European civilization. A hospitable shore with modern resorts spread along 1,200 km of fine sandy beaches, near ancient cities, lively festivals, a pleasant climate and moderate prices make Tunisia a holiday destination for more than 6 million tourists every year year.

On the websites of travel agencies, which offer packages to this destination, some offers still benefit from the discount, being below the threshold of 1000 euros for seven nights for a room in a four-star hotel, with ultra-all-inclusives. General offers exceed 1,200 euros.

Rhodes, Greece

Days of operation: Thursday
Period: June – September

The introduction of the island of Rhodes as a holiday destination for the 2024 summer season was announced in November 2023. It will be accessible by direct flights from Sibiu every Thursday from June to September.

The island of Rhodes, also known as the Island of the Sun, is the fourth largest island in Greece. Rhodes abounds in beautiful beaches, lush vegetation, charming places, towns steeped in history and interesting tourist attractions.

Best places to visit:

  • The medieval city of Rhodes, the oldest inhabited medieval city in Europe;
  • Anthony Quinn Bay, with gorgeous turquoise waters and a narrow beach;
  • Valea celor Sapte Izvoare – one of the most picturesque locations on the island, an oasis of greenery on the island, with natural springs, fragrant pines and rich vegetation;
  • Valley of the Butterflies – a unique nature reserve, in the heart of the island of Rhodes;
  • Acropolis of Lindos and the picturesque village of Lindos;
  • The Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights – medieval castle in the city of Rhodes.

We specify that, in addition to these distant destinations, Sibiu Airport also offers flights to some large European cities, mainly German, which can be options to consider for urban getaways (or city-breaks, in English). It is about Munich, Dortmund, Memmingen, Nurnberg or Vienna.
