1853 – LUDWIG TIECK (b. 1773), German poet, prose writer and dramatist, dies.

1859 – Alexandru Ioan Cuza signs the decree for the establishment of the Bureau of Statistics of Romania and appoints Dionisie Pop Marțian as its head.

1887 – EDGAR ISTRATTY is born (d. 1967), singer, one of the founding members of the Romanian Opera in Bucharest, on whose stage he performed the main roles of the bass repertoire.

1893 – EMMANUEL PACHE-PROTOPOPESCU (b. 1845), politician, mayor of the Capital (April 1888 – December 1891), dies.
