Hundreds of people were arrested this week after several schools called the police following the protests. University administrators are facing increasing pressure from lawmakers to keep the protests under control.
At Columbia, the epicenter of the demonstrations, the school senate passed a resolution on Friday to investigate how the university’s management handled the protests.
Arizona State University police also arrested three people on suspicion of trespassing Friday “in connection with setting up an unauthorized camp,” a university spokesman said.
On a Denver campus, about 40 of the 100 people who set up a pro-Palestinian camp were arrested Friday. At Emory University, faculty gathered on campus to express their concern about the arrests that occurred Thursday.
Also, George Washington University announced on Friday that any student who remains on campus may be temporarily suspended. At Ohio State University, a total of 36 demonstrators were arrested Thursday night after defying orders to disperse, according to a preliminary university report.
At the University of North Carolina, more than 75 students gathered Friday to set up a camp at the school, demanding that the university divest from corporations that invest in Israel and its military operations.
Protests also take place in other universities.
