A chocolate shop in Cluj-Napoca organized a workshop to paint chocolate eggs, helping more children and adults to get into the atmosphere of the Easter holidays through a creative activity. The participants had to paint molds with eggs of different sizes, which were then transformed into real decorations.
Making chocolate eggs
“We use this craft called artisanal chocolate by painting molds with cocoa butter that we color with different dyes.
Cocoa butter is 100% cocoa butter and then we use our imagination and creativity to paint.
After painting, the molds must stay in the fridge for a while (maximum 18 °C-20 °C) for the colored cocoa butter to crystallize.

Afterwards, a layer of cocoa butter with white coloring will be applied to make all the decorations stand out better. It is left in the refrigerator again for 5 minutes and then we will pour chocolate.
It will sit in the refrigerator again until the cocoa butter in the chocolate crystallizes, and then it will come off and there will be two egg halves that we will stick together”, explains the recipe Lucia Pantea, the organizer of the workshop.
Many of the participants painted the molds with their loved ones in mind. Among them is Iulia, who had both family and friends in mind throughout the egg decorating.
“I want to take the big egg and the small ones to family and friends. I made something special for each of them, it didn’t work out completely because it’s harder than it seems to paint on those plastic molds, but the intention matters because they are made with love and for them,” said Iulia.
Family business
“Maximilian Chocolat was founded in 2019 at the end, it was a personal desire of mine to create something authentic and in which I could express myself, being even a family business.
From the very beginning when we started the chocolate shop what we wanted was to offer authentic chocolate experiences.
From the beginning we wanted to do tastings and workshops, so that we could explain to people as much as possible about the production method, the importance of the ingredients and to have contact with this fantastic ingredient”, said Laura Hizo, representative of the chocolate shop.
Creative workshops for children
At the same time, creative workshops for children are organized here where they can give free rein to their imagination.
“We organize workshops for both adults and children. Their idea is to open us up, express our creativity and have a product that is both very tasty and endearing.
The adult part is more interesting, more complex, and for children we choose some activities that they can carry out independently”, Laura Hizo also declares.
