A man from the municipality of Motru was fined 11,000 lei after getting behind the wheel while drunk. The sentence of the magistrates came more than two years after the act was committed and is not final.
The Motrean was stopped by the police on DJ 675 Ţicleni and asked to blow into a breathalyzer. “From the investigations carried out in the case, it emerged that on 19.11.2021, at around 17:14, traffic police agents from the Ţicleni City Police spotted the named (…) while driving in road traffic on DJ 675 Ţicleni the VW Passat brand car, from the Târgu-Cărbuneşti direction to Peșteana Jiu. During the checks, the police officers proceeded to test the driver with the breathalyzer device, finding that he had a blood alcohol level of 0.69 mg/l of pure alcohol in the exhaled air, for which reason he was taken to the Rovinari Hospital, in order to establish alcoholism”, according to the indictment.
The man admitted that that morning he consumed 0.75 1 beer and 100 g of vodka and did not have time to eat. In the afternoon he went to Târgu-Cărbuneşti to buy a car.
The Târgu-Carbunești Court sentenced him to pay a criminal fine, judging that this “is sufficient for the re-education of the defendant and the formation in his consciousness of the idea that it is necessary to respect the rules of law”.
“On the basis of (…), the defendant is sentenced to the main penalty of a criminal fine in the amount of 11,000 lei, representing a number of 220 fine-days multiplied by the amount of 50 lei corresponding to a fine-day. Pursuant to art. 63 para. 1 of the Criminal Code, draws the attention of the defendant, that if, in bad faith, he does not execute the penalty of the fine, in whole or in part, the number of unexecuted fine-days is replaced by a corresponding number of prison days”, according to the Târgu Carbunești Court.
The sentence is not final, and the fined driver can appeal.
