The ongoing construction site at the Emergency County Hospital in Târgu Jiu has reduced the number of beds in Surgery Department 1. Because there is not enough space until this department is also modernized, the medical unit has made the decision to limit operations and only urgent cases will operate.

General Surgery Ward 1 was moved to Surgery Ward 2. Beds were reduced by almost half. “The number of beds has been considerably reduced (43 beds currently out of the total of the two sections of 78 beds). As a result of this fact, admissions and surgical interventions are limited only to emergency cases”, said Mihaela Țicleanu, the spokesperson of the medical unit.

The hospital has already taken steps, sent addresses to the other hospitals in the county and neighboring counties to support the taking over of the cases that will no longer be able to be brought to Târgu Jiu: “Information and support addresses were sent to the medical units in Gorj county, as well as to those in the neighboring counties, so that, until these works are completed, it will support the Târgu Jiu County Emergency Hospital in taking over the cases that our health unit will no longer be able to take over”, said Mihaela Țicleanu.

Also here, at Surgery 1, it rained in two operating rooms. The pipe that collects the rainwater was blocked so the water seeped into the halls. Although not all the equipment was moved, it was not affected, assures the hospital management. On Wednesday, the problem was fixed, but the two halls will be modernized anyway.

The County Hospital has been under construction for several years and the works were supposed to be ready by the end of 2023, but they were extended to the despair of the sick and the medical staff who had to treat people in not very comfortable conditions due to the almost continuous construction site.

It wasn’t just the rain that brought problems to the medical facility on Tudor Vladimirescu Street. For several months, the hospital has been facing power outages.
