VIDEO “Verzulica” from Barcani collected, on the first day of operation, several tons of garbage, with the help of local students. What prize can children get

The local authorities of the Barcani Commune managed to install in the locality an intelligent station to pick up and select the garbage, named “Verzulica”. Students are encouraged to take the waste they collect to “Verzulica” and the machine gives them a “greener” (ie a ticket for each piece of waste put into the smart station). At the end of the school year, the classes that will have the most “greenies” collected will win a trip each.

“Verzulica” helps children to recycle the following types of waste, according to the mayor of Barcani, Nicolae Pastor:

• blankets;
• glass bottles;
• metal cans.

“Today (n. ed.: Wednesday, April 24) several tons were collected. I emptied the station a few times”the mayor said, for covasnamedia.ro, on Wednesday.

Students have at least three reasons to take to “Verzulica” the waste they find thrown on the street, explains Nicolae Pastor: they receive a voucher (“greener”), they will have the feeling of cleanliness and they will receive a lot of gratitude from the environment.

The race to gather as many “greenies” as possible will have prizes to match: the class that gets first place will receive 5,000 lei for organizing a trip

Because “Verzulică” was installed in the Covăsne commune at the very time when the local students were in the “Green Week” – dedicated to activities that focus on the environment – the mayor Nicolae Pastor also launched a challenge for the children of Barcani.

“Starting tomorrow (ed.: Wednesday, April 24), any class that wants to participate in the contest can collect and bring to the station, cans, glass bottles, or plastic blankets. For every recycling you get a greener. The class with the most greens will win a trip with free transportation. 1st place: 5,000 lei; 2nd place: 3,000 lei; 3rd place: 2,000 lei. The location of the trip will be chosen by each individual winner,” Nicolae Pastor said.

The contest will end with the current school year.

“I saw cans, bottles and blankets on many ditches in the commune! In your spare time, after finishing the homework, you can start searching for them“, the mayor told the children.

How did “Verzulica” end up in Barcani?

The intelligent station for picking up and selecting recyclable garbage was bought by the authorities through European funds, through the National Program for Recovery and Resilience (PNRR). The cost amounted to approximately 30,000 euros.

“Out of the desire to have an environment as clean as possible, and to stop seeing garbage thrown everywhere, this project was written, and today we are enjoying the success. Each of you can bring here the waste I mentioned. And the issued vouchers can be given as gifts to children. The only request is that this waste be clean. The credit for winning this project belongs to the colleague Anca Baila Hermenean and colleagues from the town hall”explained Nicolae Pastor.

Along with this announcement, the following video was also made, for the presentation of “Verzulica”.

“We set out to become the cleanest commune in Romania! Do you support us?”, is the question finally raised by Nicolae Pastor for the citizens of Barcani.
