The giant Delhaize, the owner of Mega Image, opens a center in Bucharest…

The group Dutch-Belgian Ahold Delhaize, the owner of the Mega-Image network, announced the opening of a technology center in Bucharest that will reach around 250 specialists in the coming years.

Called AD/01, the “tech studio” will play an essential role in strengthening Ahold Delhaize’s capabilities in the digital, data and technology segment.

The recruitment process has already started and they will focus primarily on the Romanian market, which has one of the largest reservoirs of technical talent in Europe, according to the group’s statement.

The teams from Bucharest will work on IT projects for web and application development, but also on strategic projects in eCommerce, Infrastructure, Data, Loyalty, Core Retail and more.

As part of our technology ambitions, we focus on delivering seamless digital experiences, whether it’s in-store, at the till or in backstage areas. With the evolving needs of our customers come new challenges, which is why we create AD/01. This technology studio will bring together specialists to develop innovations that serve the people of today and tomorrow and serve all our European brands. In this way, we also invest in the Romanian market, where we already operate through our local brand Mega Image,” said Wouter Kolk, CEO of Ahold Delhaize Europe & Indonesia.

Last year, Ahold Delhaize took over the Profi network in Romania from MidEuropa Partners, an investment fund. The transaction is estimated at 1.3 billion euros (before IFRS), the largest in the history of domestic retail, and is to be completed in during the year 2024.

Profi has 1,650 stores and Mega Image has around 1,000 units. As turnover, together, they add up to 20.3 billion lei in 2022.
