“I had an overweight patient who had not moved for 10 years. Through bariatric surgery, today he is active and perfectly functional”. Interview with Dr. Bogdan Smeu, Primary General Surgery Physician and Surgeon of Excellence in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery

Doctor Bogdan Smeu joined the “Good Doctor” campaign

Postponing specialist consultations, neglecting hernias, obesity or other diseases that ultimately require surgical intervention can lead to the worsening of conditions to the point where the patient’s life is endangered. Even when the discomfort becomes more and more unbearable, patients hardly turn to surgical treatment, fearing a slow, painful recovery or the complications that may arise. Dr. Bogdan Smeu, primary general surgery physician and surgeon of excellence in bariatric and metabolic surgery joined the “Doctor Bun” campaign out of the desire to provide as much information as possible related to what modern treatment techniques mean by laparoscopic and robotic approach.

Fortunately, says doctor Bogdan Smeu, there are currently innovative solutions for patients. For example, the minimally invasive approach allows the treatment of various diseases under safe conditions for the patient, with quick recovery and short hospitalization, without post-operative pain. The minimally invasive approach is a modern treatment technique, performed by robotic or laparoscopic surgery. Robotic assisted surgery is performed using the DaVinci Xi robot, the most advanced surgical system in existence and offers superior benefits to the patient through minimal discomfort and very fast recovery.

The DaVinci Xi robot provides the surgeon with invaluable “powers” and functions as an extension that enhances the surgeon’s intraoperative gestures. The robot enables three-dimensional visualization that magnifies the image up to ten times in the patient’s anatomy, for extraordinary precision during the surgical act.
