Last evening (23.04.2024), rescue firefighters intervened to extinguish a fire that broke out at a house located in the village of Cușmed, Atid commune.
Around 8:00 p.m., following a call received through the unique number 112, fire crews from the Odorheiu Secuiesc Detachment and SVSU Atid were mobilized in the village of Cășmed, commune of Atid, to extinguish a fire at a house. Arriving at the address indicated by the caller, the firemen found that the burning was widespread, on an area of about 40 square meters, so that, in order to locate and quickly extinguish the fire, the firemen acted with three special work trucks with water and foam, making devices of extinguishing both inside and outside the home. Fortunately, there were no injured people. Following the occurrence of the event, the probable cause of which was a damaged chimney, the roof, ceiling and interior of the house burned.
CAREFUL! Such events can result in great material damage and sometimes, unfortunately, with injuries or even loss of human life, and to prevent these situations, chimneys must be periodically cleaned, checked and repaired (if necessary) by people specialized and authorized.
Also, in the attics of the buildings, the chimneys are plastered inside and outside and given lime, so that possible cracks can be easily observed through which sparks could enter, which can be sources of ignition, if there are combustible materials in its area . At the same time, the chimneys will be isolated from the combustible elements of the floors by thickening the brick masonry of the chimney by 25 cm, and in the space between the chimney and the floor it is recommended to insert a layer of non-combustible materials.
Following the first aid actions, the SMURD crews medically assisted 3 people in difficulty, who had various medical conditions, giving them specialized care, and the operative crews ensured fire prevention measures, following a road accident, in Miercurea-Ciuc municipality.
