Footwear retailer DEICHMANN ended the 2023 financial year with a sales increase of over 11 percent to 662 million lei, including VAT.

The company also broke a record for the number of pairs of shoes sold. For the first time, more than four million pairs of shoes were sold in stores (2022: 3.97 million pairs). DEICHMANN thus confirms its role as market leader in the Romanian footwear retail sector.
The company now operates 118 stores across the country, as well as an online store, and employs 850 people.
Europe’s largest footwear retailer is also investing in an attractive network of stores with a modern design. The new store concept is characterized by a modern look, a feeling of generous space, delicate color tones and plenty of room for sports shoes. There are already 22 stores with the new concept in Romania. Last year, a total of 7 new stores were opened and another 10 were modernized.
This year, 6 new stores are planned, and 8 will be renovated according to the new store design concept.
The DEICHMANN Group had a gross turnover of 8.7 billion Euros (net 7.4 billion Euros) in 2023 in the 34 countries. Currency-adjusted sales growth is more than seven percent. In 2023, the number of shoes sold worldwide also increased – approximately 184 million pairs of shoes in stores and online (1.4 percent increase compared to 2022). The group operated, on 31.12.2023, around 4,700 stores and had over 49,000 employees.
According to the current status, a total of around 450 new and upgraded stores are planned for 2024 across the group.
