A case of scabies was confirmed in a student studying in one of the elite high schools in the municipality of Arad, Rador Press Agency announces, quoting Radio Timișoara.
The infection was discovered during a routine triage by the school doctor.
The general school inspector, Marius Gondor, says that the measures provided for by law in these cases were immediately taken.
“The director of that educational unit informed me of the existence of this case, he informed me that there was still a suspicion that has not been confirmed. Obviously, DSP Arad was notified and all the measures that follow the protocol of such situations were taken, disinfection was carried out. At the same time, they intensified, they doubled the cleaning measures in the school with the usual cleaning substances”, says Marius Gondor.
Epidemiologists warn, however, that the number of infections is higher, as scabies is transmitted quickly and easily through skin contact.
Most likely, the students were treated in private clinics, where the diagnosis in the documents could have been changed to dermatitis, says DSP Arad director, Cecilia Irimie.
“I don’t think it’s just one case, I think there are several cases, but these cases have not been reported here. The other children were probably treated in specialized outpatient clinics. The source of the infection is unknown. She can be contacted by direct contact from the common areas of shops, fitness rooms, from trolleys, from public transport”, says Cecilia Irimie.
Health inspectors in Arad are now trying to identify the source of infection to prevent the spread of scabies.
